Tramps traditions trade-unions troubles & tip-offs

You can find all kinds of opinions about almost anything in myDiary: 'n soort van rariteitenkabinetje lijkt 't soms wel met al die rommelzolders & oeroude kelders vol met spinraggen, kakkerlakken, zilvervisjes, duizendpoten, muggen, vliegen & evolutionaire dwarsweggetjes in de mydigloria?

For me it consists of a mixture with old memories & recent discoveries: alles wat ik ben tegengekomen in de afgelopen halve eeuw zo'n beetje & wat ik op grond daarvan boeiend & interessant lijk te vinden op 'n bepaald moment. Gefundenes Fressen, oude troep & allerlei nieuwigheden ...

Danny Boyarin focusses in his books intensively on the Jewish side of all kinds of equations, sketching the culture of the body both in that old "radical Judaism" and in the rabbinic reaction(s) to it. Some people's "radical Judaism" was not so radical at all (it depends how you are looking at things, when & where you came into contact with different thoughts, feelings, actions, causes & developments), in fact, most views are rather typical of various Jewish subcultures around the Mediterranean. people may have been referring to apocalyptic sects, such as the one at the salt shores of the Dead Sea. I love to connect all kinds of human movements through time and space all over the world during tha past thousands of years: to try to see how our past came into existence and how we developed it in the next ages, traveling all the time almost anywhere again & again! Archeological evidence suggests, that despite undergoing periods of withdrawal from sexual relations, the "Essenes" were not at all an ex-tremely celibate community. They also had very probably all kinds of settlements all over the Land & fruitful connections with relatives in other countries, cities, villages & 'colonies': that the way our human cookies do crumble in times of war & trade, persecutions & more peaceful times?

Whatever Sha'ul Paul's spiritual origins ("Tarsus in Asia" just north of Cyprus with her "kittim", Greeks, Romans & other natives), the Christian communities as they developed did not grow out of Palestinian Jewish apocalyptic. In support of our present notion that the attitudes toward the sexuality among the Fathers owe more to the Greek-speaking Judaism of Philo and his congeners than to Semitic-speaking apocalyptic stands the fact that both Philo and Flavius Josephus DESCRIBE the Essenes as a celibate group. There may or may not have been such a group, but, in any case, these two Greek-speaking Jews have testified to their values by that declaration. Further, in the first century these orientations to the body cannot yet be separated out as "Jewish" and "Christian"; Pauline religion should be understood as contiguous with other Hellenistic Judaisms, and a separate. Between Jewish and Christian religion-cultural formations should properly be attributed only to a (much) later period. I am aware that

I am placing myself in the middle here of a great contest in the interpretation of Sha'ul Paul. Suffice it to say here that I am cognizant of all the different ways to read the Pauline corpus, including in particular the very stimulating (but ultimately rather unconvincing) revisionist readings ...

(See also DB's A Radical Jew: Paul and the Politics of Identity a.s.o.!). Among the major supports for such a constructio are the simi-larities between Paul and Philo - similarities that cannot easily be accounted for by assuming influence, since both were active at the same time in quite widely separated places! The affinities between Philo and such texts as the fourteen gospel and the Letter to the Hebrew are only slightly less compelling evidence, because of the possibility that the authors of these texts already know Philo?! I take these affinities as prima facie eve-dence for a Hellenistic Jewish cultural KOINE throughout the eastern `mediterranean, undoubtedly varying from place to place in many respects but sharing some common elements throughout the region.
