IN SPACE~TIME:"
Recently, along with neighbors,
Elissa & I (Jonathan) made our annual trip to our Manhattan rooftop to see the July 4 Macy's fireworks:
Some shapes: a smiley face, a heart ... & most stunning, a series of red cubes of light high above the East River.
This firework ritual is the cyclical invocation & obliteration of history & yet,
perhaps, a linear story of promise fulfilled
is also told as each year the fireworks
become "better."

"PHYSICAL INFLUENCE:"
What does "physical" mean? Are we (Martin, Jonathan, the reader yet to be named) interacting objects?
What is the difference to "God" between "objects" & "frames of reference?"

"THE CAUSAL PRINCIPLE:"
Just to underscore (since I had to reread and reread here); "historical time" is not "clock time," contrary to what I persisted in assuming (vigilant as I always am to detect & denounce historians' notion of homogeneous, empty time that is filled with events; a vigilance that might of course shape what it sees in the image of its own spectral fears).

"IT MAY BE POSSIBLE TO 'travel backward I time':" But how could we "appear" without changing time? [The solution adopted by the Back to the Future movie trilogy, brilliant for its dramatic purposes, is to mark only certain,
presumably life-transforming events (an ancestor not meeting her mate)
as risking a "fundamental disruption
of the space-time continuum."]

WHAT,
IN ANY CASE,
WOULD "we"
BE?
