Blijkbaar
is er dus in mensen iets
wat we geweten plegen te noemen?

daaraan]!

Gewetenlozen
worden aanranders,
verkrachters, moordenaars &
de aandeelhouders van wapenindustrie, massaproductie, uitbuiting & genocide e.d.

Martelaren offeren zich op voor 't exacte
tegendeel: verliefdheid, zorgverlening,
mededogen & barmhartigheid voor 't
tedere, kleine,
waardevolle.

Some
argued that
"people could not
confess themselves to be Jews"
meant that they could not declare themselves to be practitioners
of the ancestral laws, 'the
laws of
G d'.

Pointing to
Assumption of Moses 8:1,
'which describes how the king will "hang on the cross those who confess circumcision"'.

They also accordingly suggest that "oute haplos Ioudaion homologein eina" means
to circumcise openly. Thus Antiochus proscribed circumcision, to prevent people 'confessing themselves
to be Jews'. They supported this argument from the literary structure of the passage.

Three points are mentioned: prohibition on observing Sabbath, prohibition on
observing festivals, & prohibition
on "confessing"
Jewishness.

The first
is exemplified
where Jews are compelled
to observe the Dionysian and other Greek festivals.

So the third would be exemplified where two women are executed for circumcising their sons.

In any case are we to understand that the mere name 'Jew' aroused the ire of the Seleucid state
just as centuries later the mere name 'Christian' [a.s.o.]
aroused the ire of the Romans?

Tegenwoordig
noemen we dat ook wel
'islamofobia'!?

In another context,
perhaps inadvertently,
another solution to this problem has been suggested: in Justin's Dialogue,
there is a reference to Jews who "confess G d with their lips = cheilesin homologountas
~ so the same verb is used here, and it is remarkable that "'confessing G d with their lips'
is probably a pun on the name Jew, which was commonly taken to mean 'confessor.'
For this etymology see Philo ..."!

If
this etymology
was as early as the 2 Maccabees text,
we could see why a practice such as the reading of the Shema text or even circumcision
would have been a "confession," using the same verb that we have in the [much later, of course]
Justin text?! II Macc & Assumption of Moses, apparently in connectiom with Antiochus's decrees,
refer to Jews who "confess" that they are circumcised. Homologein this way is contrasted
to the LXX meaning,
which included
gratitude.

For
the importance
of the Christian version
of this ("Christianus sum"

we can see other places
where the Greek is just like that
{except it says "Christian"
instead of
"Jew}!

De
verschillen &
overeenkomsten tussen toen,
nu & 'straks' zijn & blijven frappant ook al zijn we
niet zeker van alle details?

Hoe verder we teruggaan
in tijd en ruimte des te meer fantasie we nodig hebben
om 'in te vullen'!

Maar het staat wel
als een paal boven water dat mensen vanaf die allereerste 'oertijden'
zich bedienden van beschikbare 'stokken & stenen', dat we passend maakten
om ons 'doel' te kunnen bereiken: 'n zich continuerend proces
van inzicht, aanpassing, correcties, ritualisering
& codificatie.

Het enige
wat ik nu nog kan doen is 't vergelijken
van het opgedane materiaal: daar had ik ook al wat serieuzer
mee aan de gang kunnen gaan vijftig jaar geleden,
maar daar had ik blijkbaar
het geduld niet voor?

Als je ongedurig blijft voorttrekken
van de Lage Landen a/d Noordzee naar de "Zuyderzeeen" in 't Nabije
& Verre Oosten dan zijn alle zintuigen volop aanwezig op 'de plaats delict': je ziet het met eigen ogen
gebeuren, je maakt er deel van uit & begeeft je naar 't volgende land
met 'n ietwat andere cultuur!

Baby-,
peuter-, kleuter-
& kindertijd leken ontzettend 'langzaam' te verlopen en nu gaat alles veel sneller naar het schijnt: ik kom altijd 'tijd tekort', maar het heeft geen zin
om je daar druk over te maken.

Ons behoren tot
een volk en/of religie, filosofische richtingen & politieke stromingen kan nu eindelijk eens
wat meer plaatsmaken voor 'gewoon' menszijn & 'mens worden' op eigen wijze &
in aangepast tempo.

Voor
't eerst {?}
in de geschiedenis van de mensheid
hebben we wat meer kans tot 'kennismaking' met elkaar
[waar ook ter wereld]: ondanks alles bloeien de wetenschappen op
met de meest uiteenlopende onderzoekingen & zinnige{r} {?} evaluaties van 't ontdekte
& 't 'enige' probleem lijkt te zijn 'n permanent geldtekort voor alle goede doelen,
'ten hemel schreiende onrechtvaardigheid', verregaande onverschilligheid,
afgestompheid & corruptie onder 'baasjes & bazinnetjes'
die vooral op de eerste plaats denken aan hun eigen
gouden handdrukken & uiterst hebberig
conservatisme & 'de massa's die hun
voorbeelden blind navolgen zonder
enig besef [schijnbaar/blijkbaar]
van 'iets anders'
dan dat
...
