The Book of Enoch is a key part of the Bible of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church; it does not appear in Western Bibles, whether Jewish, Catholic, Orthodox, or Protestant. It contains 5 sub-books: the Book of the Watchers, the Similitudes of Enoch, the Astronomical Book, the Animal Apo-calypse, & the Episyle of Enoch.
These books, all purporting to have been written by the antediluvian Enoch, were separate works gathered together at some point, probably during the late first century A.D. Fragments of them have also been found @ Qumran (among the Dead~Saltseascrolls), except for the Simili-tudes, & fragments are known from various Greek sources as well.
Present opinion is almost entirely solid that the Book of the Watchers is the oldest bit of Enoch (3rd century B.C./BCE) & the Similitudes, our present concern, the youngest, dating from the mid-first century A.D./CE! All of the pieces are couched as visions beheld or shown to that ancient sage Enoch, & thus the text as a whole is an apocalypse, e revelation, similar to the Book of Daniel
or the canonical New Testament book of Revelation.
Eigenlijk,
achteraf gezien,
best wel heel begrijpelijk?
Om de zoveel tijd had iemand de neiging
om verontrust te raken omtrent de gang van zaken
tussen mensen, groepen, volken, staten & 'superstaten'! Immers:
steeds weer tal van verschillen van mening, naijver/jaloezie, vreemdelingenhaat/xeno-fobie,
veroveringen/kolonisaties, natuurrampen, technische foefjes & allerlei andere funny fashions,
strange happenings & (burger)oorlogs-tijden met aanverwante mix vol verontrusting,
gerommel, geroddel, arrestaties, deportaties, verslavingen &
onbestemde toekomstangsten.
Wat is dan logischer
dan te vertellen, verhalen,
opschrijven en verspreiden van 'het nieuws' onder belangstellenden?
Ontstonden after all niet de meeste religies, filosofietjes, bijgelovigheden
& artistieke visies vanuit soortgelijke
veranderende omstandigheden?
Tot op de myDidag
van vandaag
