One big 'game' re: 14-3 {& we're part of it!?!}
Assyria,
Babylon,
Canaan,
Dynasty in
Egypt
...

The Egyptians
had never submitted very willingly
to the rule of their Semitic shepherd kings, and about 1600 B.C.
a vigorous patriotic movement expelled these foreigners.
Followed by a new phase of revival for Egypt.
Egypt, which had not been closely consolidated before the Hyksos invasion,
was now a united country;
and the phase of subjugation and insurrection left her full of military spirit.
The Pharaohs became in their turn aggressive conquerors.
They had now acquired the war-horse and the war-chariot, which the Hyksos
had brought
to them.
8
Egypt
soon extended
her rule into Asia as far as the Euphrates.
So we are entering now upon a thousand years of warfare
between the once quite separated civilisations
of Mesopotamia and
the Nile ...
8
At first
Egypt was ascendant.
The great dynasties, the Seventeenth Dynasty,
which included Thutmoses III and Amenophis III and IV
and the great Queen Hatasu,
and the Nineteenth, when Ramses II,
supposed by some to have been the Pharaoh of Moshe,
reigned for sixty-seven years, raised Egypt
to high levels
of properity.
8
Inbetween
there were some phases of depression for Egypt,
conquest by the Syrians and later conquest by the Ethiopians
from the South ...
8
In Mesopotamia Babylon ruled,
then the Hittites and the Syrians of Damacus rose to a transitory
predominance; ar one time the Syrians conquered Egypt,
the fortunes of the Assyrians of Nineveh ebbed
and flowed, sometimes the city was a conquered city;
sometimes the Assyrians ruled in Babylon
and assailed Egypt ...
8
As in our own myDi-days
the were lots of comings and goings of the armies
of the Egyptians {1967}
and of the various Semitic powers of Asia Minor, Turkey,
{Israel since '48},
Syria and Mesopotamia and so on:
they were then {as now with tanks and planes & rockets}
provided with vast droves of war-chariots, for the horse - still used only for war and glory - had spread by this time from central Asia
into the old civilisations ...
8
Great conquerors appear
in the dim light of that distant time and pass,
{as they do now: Shah, Khomeiny, Saddamn, Nasser, Dayan, Hussein?!},
like Tushratta, king of mitanni who captured Nineveh,
Tighlat Pileser I of Assyria who conquered Babylon.
At last the Assyrians became the greatest military power of that time ...
Tiglath Pileser I conquered Babylon in 745 B.C.,
and founded what historians call the New
Assyrian Empire
...

IRON had also come now
into civilisation out of the north;
the Hittites, the precursors of the Armenians, had it first
and communicated
its use to the Assyrians,
and an Assyrian usurper, Sargon II
{one of Saddamn's great heroes!},
armed his troops
with it ...
8
Assyria became
the first power to expound the doctrine of blood and iron!
Sargon's son, Sennacheriv led an army to the border of Egypt,
and was defeated not by military strength
but by the plague ...
8
Sennecheriv's grandson,
Assurbanipal {who is also known in history by his Greek name Sardanapolos} did actually conquer Egypt in 670 B.C.
But Egypt was then already a conquered country under an Ethiopian dynasty: Sardanapolos simply replaced
one conqueror by
another ...
8
IF one had
a series of political maps of this long period of history,
this interval of ten centuries, we should have Egypt expanding and
contracting like an amoeba under a microscope,
and we should be able to see these various Semitic states of the Babylonians, Assyrians, Hittites and Syrians coming and going
{almost just as they have been for the past
100 years or so!},
trying to eat each other up and
disgorging each other again
and again ...
8
To the west of Asia Minor
there would be little Aegean states like Lydia, whose capital was Sardis,
and Caria ...
But after about 1200 B.C.
{and the vulcanic explosion of Thera as well as the explosive spreading of the use of iron!} and perhaps earlier {?},
a new set of names would come into the map of the ancient world
from the north-east and from the north-west ...
THESE would be the names of certain barbaric tribes,
armed with better forged iron weapons and using advanced horse-chariots,
who were becoming a greater affliction to the Aegean and Semitic civilisations on the northern borders ...
THEY all spoke variants of what once must have been
the 'same' language, Aryan ...
8
ROUND the north-east
of the Black & Caspian Seas were coming the Medes and Persians.
Confused with these in the records of time were Scythians and Sarmatians.
From north-east or north-west came the Armenians,
from the north-west of the sea-barrier thru the Balkan peninsula
came Cimmerians, Phrygians, and the Hellenic tribes
whom now we call Greeks ...
8
THEY
were raiders and robbers and plunderers of cities, these Aryans,
east and west alike ..............
They were all kindred and similar peoples,
hardy herdmen who had taken
to plunder ........
8
In the east
they were still only borderers and raiders,
but in the west they were taking cities and driving out the civilised Aegean populations ........
The Aegean peoples were so pressed
that they were seeking new homes in lands beyond the Aryan range ...
SOME were seeking a settlement in the delta of the Nile
and being repulsed by the Egyptians;
OTHERS, like the Etruscans, seem to have sailed from Asia Minor to found a state in the forest wilderness of middle Italy;
SOME built themselves cities upon the south-east coasts of the Mediterranean and became later that violent and aggressive people known in history as the Philistines ...
8
Of the Aryans who came thus rudely upon the scene
{like in our recent times the English, French, Germans & Americans?!}
of the ancient civilisations we might tell more fully in later myDi-stories?
HERE & NOW we simply note all this wild stirrings and emigrations
amidst the area of the ancient civilisations,
that was set up by the swirl of the gradual and continuous advance of these
Aryan barbarians {also among our ancestors?!} out of the north-eastern
forests and wildernesses between about
1600 and 600 B.C.
8
And again {again? YES again!}
we must also tell of the little Semitic people, the Hebrews, in the hills behind the Phoenician and Philistine coasts,
who began to be of such a significance in 'our' world
towards the end of this period ........
8
THEY produced a literature
of very great importance in subsequent history,
a collection of 'books', histories, poems, scrolls of wisdom and prophetic works: the Hebrew Bible!
8
Sorry for those
who don't like these 'vague' stories about distant peoples and our own roots in these past happenings, but that's the way the cooky crumbles:
IF we want to survive the 'present' and the 'future', we first have to
understand our past ...!
8
We don't have to repeat
our mistakes of the past endlessly all the time?
After all it is not so much the decisions of 'great leaders' that we are so much interested in, but our own comprehension of what went on,
before 'white-anglo-saxon-protestants {and roman-catholics}'
took over 'our' world .............
8
Just a lttle more patience
and we'll get there where we are now?
If we survive our present sorrows
and complications ...
8
Emotional brains
are busy all the time and we can't stop ourselves to act and react according
to what happened to us, is still happening all the time and might be
happening in the near future ...?
8
Whether we like it or not,
it's all ONE BIG GAME:
and we are part of
IT ...!?!
