die je maar wilt tegenwoordig

over de meest uiteenlopende onderwerpen
in de geschiedenis, documentaires
& reportages: als ik eenmaal gepakt ben
door een bepaald onderwerp kan ik meestal niet rusten
voordat ik me verdiept heb in alle beschikbare details
& aanverwante merkwaardigheden.

The Pharisaic movement
became involved in the civil war of the late Maccabean period,
and by Yehoshua's time they had become recognized as the real teachers of the big masses,
consciously identifying themselves with popular faith.

The Sadducees,
on the other hand,
formed a small but powerful group among the priestly aristocracy of the Temple in Yerushalayim. Fundamentally, the Pharisaic philosophy of life was in line with non-sectarian universal Judaism,
while the Sadducees turned into a counter-sectarian groep that denied the validity
of the oral tradition and saw belief in a future life
only an an old wives' tale.

The Pharisees
were not identical with the later rabbis,
but the two groups may, in practice, be regarded as forming a unity.
In the rabbinic literature the sages are never designated as Pharisees.
We do, however, know of two men who calles themselves Pharisees:
the historian Josephus Flavius [born in 37?]
and ShaulPaul [SjapoChapeau
dead by 60?]!

While Paul's teacher,
Rabban Gamaliel, in the rabbinic sources is never calles a Pharisee,
in Acts 5:34 Lucky Luke speaks about "a Pharisee named Gamaliel, a teacher of the law,
who was honored by all the people!"

Gamaliel's son,
Shim'on, is described as another Pharisee only in Flavius Josephus' Life {191}.
These exceptions to the rule are because they wrote in Greek. The term "Pharisee" in Hebrew {'prushim'} in Hebrew usually bore a negative connotation & in those days, if one said, "Pharisee,"
one immediately thought of a religious hypocrite.

On his deathbed,
the Sadducean King Alexander Jannaeus warned his wife not against the true Pharisees,
but against the "painted ones, whose deeds are the deeds of Zimri [an allusion to the story
told in Numeri 25:6-15], but who expects
to receive the reward of Pinchas!"

Ik heb er helemaal geen moeite mee om te herhalen wat ik je al geschreven heb:
het is immers voor je eigen bestwil? Pas op voor al die honden met hun kwalijke praktijken
& die versnijdenis van ze! WIJ zijn 't die besneden zijn: wij verrichten onze dienst door de Geest van G d & laten ons voorstaan op Yehoshua de Verlosser & niet op onszelf, hoewel ik eigenlijk best wel redenen genoeg zou hebben om op mezelf te vertrouwen: als anderen menen dat te kunnen doen,
dan kan ik dat zeker omdat ik werd besneden toen ik acht dagen oud was
en behoor tot het volk van Israel, tot de stam van BenYamin,
ik ben daarom dan ook 'n geboren Hebreeer
met de wetsopvatting van een Farizeeer
en heb de gemeente
fanatiek vervolgd!

En aan wat er
in de wet over gerechtigheid staat,
heb ik dan ook volledig
voldaan!

De rest
komt morgen wel weer
bij leven & welzijn? Wat in 't vat van meer dan
tweeduizend jaar zit verzuurt niet! Integendeel:
al die hapjes & slokjes worden steeds
smakelijker in de loop
van de tijd?

Ik
maak daarom
niet zo bar veel
onderscheid tussen lekker eten & drinken,
iets lezen & schrijven, slapen &
dromen of het herontdekken
van oeroude teksten door
middel van wat ouder/
nieuwer opduikende
interpretaties.
