One day
they sent spies to watch and to catch Yehoshua
in what he said.
"They said to him:
"Teacher, we know that you speak and teach rightly, and show no partiality.
Is it lawful for us to give a tribute to Caesar, or not?"
But he perceived their craftiness, and said to them,
"Show me a coim. Whose likeness & inscription are on it?"
They said,
"Caesar's!"He said to them,
"Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to 'G d' the things that are G d's!'"
THEY COULD NOT TAKE HOLD OF HIS WORDS BEFORE THE PEOPLE:
& THEY MARVELLED AT HIS ANSWER, & HELD THEIR PEACE
according to Lucky Luke 20:20 e.v.!
Het draait
om ons brein & wat we ermee kunnen doen
of juist niet?! Once again Yeshua had succeeded in evading capture during all those
wandering years as a tramp, monk, {r}evolutionary,
carpenter, healer, preacher, teacher,
'masjiach' & "Son
of Man",
while at the same time
making his meaning unmistakably clear.
One cannot serve two masters, mammon and 'G d':
money comes from Caesar, & so it must be handed over to him.
Quite certainly the saying did not express freindship toward the Romans,
but it also showed that Yeshu was no supporter of a revolt against them.
His ethical teaching made that impossible. He was well aware
of social reality, but that was not his most important concern.
Once one has allowed oneself to enter a game,
one must play according to the rules. As in Matai 5:25/26 is put in JC's mouth
by the unknown euangelist:
"Settle all matters quickly with your accuser
while you are going with him to court,
lest you accuser hand you over to the judge,
and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison;
truly I say to you, you will never get out
till you have paid
the last penny!"
