UNDERSTANDING
CANNOT BE THE BOOBY PRIZE,
BECAUSE IF WE DO NOT TAKE SERIOUSLY
IN THE GLOBAL ARENA THE CONSEQUENCES
OF WHAT LANGUAGE SAYS ABOUT WHO AND WHAT WE ARE,
WE CAN EASILY FOLLOW OUR NOSES INTO DISASTER
(in the sense of "prisoners' dilemma"
& any number of other
game theory results)!

In physics,
there are many areas
in which the global behavior (over long times and large distances) of a system
can be very different from the small incremental changes that determine the global behavior.
This is the basis of complexity.

Changes in weather systems can be predicted accurately
on the basis of theory over small areas and short times (a few days),
but the equations cannot be solved exactly and approximations are subject to the "butterfly effect"
~ small changes in initial conditions lead to enormous changes
over a relatively short time.

Understanding is only the booby prize
if we agree to see ourselves as lemmings. The neo-liberals may never understand what hits them,
but they cannot win this time, and if they are allowed to make the decisions,
then it's "game over."
