Unsuitable cases for nontreatment (1984 revisited)

Everybody chipped, checked & choked? That's how it seems to be happening all over the place: big neobrothers insist to know where all of us are located all of the time to be able to prevent mishaps by stopping the culprit's evil intentions before it's too late! From before birth untill after death ... Injected, elected & imprisoned like in 'total control'! That's what seems to be the ultimate goal of mankind: whether people demand it in the name of their gods, governments or criminal godfathers, we want to be sure, secure & selected in order not to worry anymore ... Let's see what our brilliant brothers elsewhere have to say about these things on their journeys inbetween the eternal gardens of Eden and devastated Babylon, dark Gethsemane and 'enlightening' Golgotha?! People hate things that don't work according to their 'perfect' expectations. That's why we invented all those gods, ghosts, angels and devils or later on our tools, traditions, trades & utter control measures. OK, I'll dig into the words of my old comrades in arms to check how far they agree and/or disagree: first Yeshayahu Leibowitz & later on maybe the Boyarin brothers, Uri Davis and so on. If I have enough time & space, my eyes & other senses don't stop working & other possible disasters don't dominate the scene, I'll keep trying & trucking ... It is a mark of the universal significance of the Book of Job that neither the book nor its author can be traced to a definite place or time or to a specific historic-cultural milieu. This characteristic of the powerful work precludes nor only identification of its author, but even a learned guess as to where and when he wrote. The author's words seem appropriate to all times and all places, to the human condition in any society and culture. Although the protagonists in the Book of Job have names suggestive of specific places and particular families, they remain un-identified. It would seem that the anonymous author intended to blur or efface all trace of incidental facts, and to build his narrative upon that which is beyond time and place: a man - not necessarily Jewish - aware of standing before God, in the sense of the great closing statement of the Yom Kippur Ne'ilah prayer, "You have distinguished man of yore ... and recognized him so he may stand before you." Some of the rabbis, according to a midrashic-aggadic source, were so bold as to attribute the Book of Job to Moses. Others, including recent scholars, have ascribed to Job (actually, to the Book of Job) dates ranging from the time of the patriarchs to that of the Persian rule in Judea - in other words, dates ranging over the entire biblical era. Ultimately we have to agree that Job never existed in fact but was merely a parable. As far as I am concerned he is everyman & -woman: I would even suppose all biblical figure are figures of speech - Adam and Eva are as much about us all as Yeshua haNatsri and Mary the Magdalene. Time to go to sleep and dream about it ...
