simple simpler simplest: when the saints go ......
Does our commitment really matter?
Maybe that's the reason for people to kill themselves or each other:
nothing really matters, life is totally useless & it is better to be dead than red
[or whatever]!
Of course, relativism in this sense is not what pluralists have in mind.
They want to bring together the relative insights of religious traditions.
There is also the assumption that religious perceptions are complementary.
But then the following observation is noteworthy:
it is notable that many recent pluralists are content to emphasize only the positive complementary hypothesis and not the genuine conflicting truth-claims that can and do occur.
Also it can be observed, that pluralists often assume a priori that the truth-claims of the world religions are only partial claims, which can then be reconstructed within a larger pluralist complemen-tary model!
But by doing so, do they not the same as exclusivists, who assume a priori the finality and normativity
of JC? Besides, is there still any content in the concept of "G d" or "Ultimate Reality"?
What can we know about G d as the Reality of realities; as Truth of the truth; as Ultimate Being?
What about the conflicting perceptions of Ultimate Reality; and are there any criteria?
And, finally, there is still the question of the role of "Christ" [messiah/anointed one/liberator/redeemer/Adonai/Yahweh/Lord
& so on & so forth]!
The criticism of the contributors
to christian uniqueness reconsidered
boils down to the fact that the definite significance of 'christ' cannot be bypassed or rejected &, in fact,
a christological orientation to the question of other religions opens up important and creative avenues.
Is it justifiable with regard to the socalled
christian tradition
to relativize Christ's decisiveness?
Thus,
different models of religious pluralism & our own adoption over a period of time
of this [or that] pluralist position has to be described, analysed, and of course evaluated.
In fact, it is rather problematical to speak about models:
as if that would imply a systematized & well-balanced approach to the world religions:
I really have no such systematic theology.
