jbml thln 66/67 ~ if we were: listening to "g d" ~
THEN WE WOULD BE TREATING ONE ANOTHER, AND THE EARTH ITSELF ALONG WITH THE OTHER SPECIES WHO SHARE IT WITH US, WITH (much) GREATER RESPECT AND WE WOULD RECOGNIZE THE DIVINE IMPERATIVE OF RADICALLY CHANGING OUR OUR COLLEC-TIVE BEHAVIOR IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE ONCOMING CATACLYSM.
It is interesting in this context to notice that we have focused here on ways in which speaking is connected to the subjective experience of ego and to preservation of memory, while listening ~ in the sense of the Hebrew SHEMA, hear & obey ~ is connected to our ex-perience of ourselves as objective, collective, & productive. [OR IN OTHER WORDS AGAIN & AGAIN: "myDiertjes of the world UNITE!"]!
IT IS THEN NOT SURPRISING THAT ANALYSIS OF HOW LANGUAGE FUNCTIONS (such as in Noam Chomsky's 'chomskian' grammar) u-sually begins with the facility of comprehension of language in the listener, and deals with speakers as builders of messages that listen-ers can understand: IT WAS IN THÌS CONTEXT THAT THE TALK I (ml) HEARD BY JULIA KRISTEVA CAME TO MY MIND! She spoke of the experience of being a refugee and the importance of her life of having been offered hospitality as the elementary act of humanity ~~~
Thonking of her statement in light of Emile Benveniste, and formalizing the idea of hospitality through the literal meaning of such form-ulas as for instance "MI CASA ES SU CASA" & the universal "AHALAN WASAHALAN," {& 'bruchiem habaïem'} it occurred to me that we can describe the act of YIELDING THE ROLE OF FIRST PERSON AND OFFERING THAT POSITION TO THE FRIEND, STRANGER, REFUGEE,
(or needy), AS A BASIC ACT OF HOSPITALITY AND HUMANITY! Also Mor has to admit that I have been received in such a way wherever we went walking, hitch hiking since the beginning of the sixties: altijd & overal zijn we keer op keer bij totaal 'wildvreemde' mensen in hun huis ontvangen om samen te eten, te drinken, te slapen & te zingen zelfs als we helemaal geen gemeenschappelijke taal hadden ~
