AGAINST PALESTINIANS IS APPLAUDED BY FUNDAMENTALIST CHRISTIANS, & George Walker Bush's crusade/campaign against Iraq is cheered by most Jews in the name of a battle against Muslim terrorists?! (Ironically, but not at all accidentally,just as in the first Crusa-des, Arab Christians are assimilated to Muslims by the discourse of both the Jewish & American Christian anti-Muslim campaigns!) .......

Already DB has also heard rumblings, ominous warnings, that the import of my critical work is precisely that, of aiding & abetting in the forging of a new identity of Jews & Christians against Muslims? Perhaps my transgressive love is not transgressive enough, maybe even
in the current social-political context, not transgressive at all but the enactment, or potential enactment, of a dangerous liaison! I have been repeatedly asked in the last year {'03/'04} or so why my book does nòt engage the history of Islam as part of the history of Juda-ism in the same way that it engages Christianity!? Once again, I have until now taken the easy way out: It ìs nòt my period of research!

I cannot continue to evade the hard question at this time of crisis, but I am hoping that there is at least the embryo of an answer in the book itself! Indeed, in some sense this book can only be justified to me now, via an allegorical reading of it? I think that while the histo-rical sense of the book concerns Christians & Jews in late antiquity, it's moral sense lies elsewhere, paradoxically in an interrogation of the easy & terrible alliances between most Jews & many Christians against Muslims in the recent past untill the present day it seems ....

I & all of us (especially Jews) who dissent from a version of a Jewish-Christian alliance that brands the Palestinians, Saddamns Family & guys like Osama bin-Laden/ISIL/ISIS/IS/Khadaffy Duck and so on & on as equally & demonically Islamic terrorists are labeled by both Jews & Christians as Jewish anti-Semites?! This is powerfully reminiscent to me (DB) of a Jerome ("Hieronymus aka Jerommeke", Mòr), so very many centuries before, stigmatizing Jews who were Christians & Christians who were Jews às heretics & declaring thèm confi-dently "neither Jews nor Christians!"? As Mr. Natural remarked: The Mìnd boggles & the imagination is beggared @ the spectacle of the right-wing Protestant presidents, Southern Baptist fundamentalist preachers (historically no friends of the Jews), & the Jewish president of Harvard University, speaking from the (Christian) pulpit @ Harvard Memorial Church (historically no site for a championing of Jews), making common cause in demonizing those, Jews & others, who dissent radically from Israeli policy & practice toward the Palestinians?!
