THEY STARTED TO GAUGE THE WORTH OF EACH STUDENT ACCORDING TO HIS OR HER AVERAGE MARK,
WHEREAS THE WORTH OF EACH TEACHER & PRINCIPAL WAS JUDGED ACCORDING TO THE SCHOOL'S OVERALL
AVERAGE?
Once bureaucrats adopted this yardstick, reality was transformed! Originally schools were supposed to focus on
enlightening and educating students, & marks were merely a means of measuring success? But naturally enough
schools soon began focussing on achieving high(er) marks! As every child, teacher & inspector knows, the skills
required to get high marks in an exam are not the
same as a true understanding of literature, biology or mathematics! Every child, teacher & inspector also knows
that when forced to choose between the two, most schools will go for the marks?! The power of written records
reached its apogee with the 'sudden' appearance of holy scriptures!? Priests & scribes in ancient civilisations
became accustomed to seeing documents as guidebooks for reality. At first the texts told them about the reality
of taxes, fields & granaries. But as the bureaucracy gained power, só the texts gained authority. Priests recorded
not only lists of the "God's PROPERTY", but also god's Deeds, COMMANDMENTS AND SECRETS!!! The resulting
Scriptures purported to describe reality in its entirety, & generations of Scholars became accustomed to looking
for all the Answers ìn the Pages of The BIBLE, The QUR'AN or The Vedas?!!! In theory, if some Holy BOOK mis-
represented reality, its Disciples would sooner or later discover this & the Texts AUTHORITY would be undermined!?
Abraham Lincoln said you can NÒT deceive everybody àll the time? Well, that's wishful thinking! Because in practice
the power of human cooperation net-works DEPENDS on a delicate balance between truth & fiction. If you distort reality
too much, it wìll weaken you, & you will not be able to compete against more clear-sighted rivals.
On the other hand, you cannot organize masses of people very
effectively without relying on some fictional myths!?
So if you stick to unalloyed reality, without
mixing any fiction with
it, few people
will follow
you.
