THE
MAIN BELIEFS
OF JUDAISM? There
is no "catechism" in Judaism,
and very view dogmas: being such a democratic religion
its beliefs have often been developed in the light of progressive revelation
and a constant searching after TRUTH! There have always been different schools of thought in Judaism
which have legitimately been described as "THE WORDS OF THE LIVING G D"! However, most Jews can
& would be united in subscribing to these following basic concepts: 1. Belief in the existence of the one indivisible spiritual G d!
It is not possible at all for our limited human minds to understand or to describe 'g d' completely, but we believe that (s)he was
the creator of the universe, and that all men & women are as co-workers like & with 'him' in the creation of peace, loved, and an
Understanding brother/sisterhood among human kind embedded in all other plants and animals as companions & friends ......
2. Belief in the original & ultimate, lasting, brother/sisterhood of man & woman! We believe that is why a biblical "ADAM" was not
associated with any particular national or religious grouping, and that is also why the messianic idea in Judaism looks forward to
the time when all mankind will be united in their allegiance to 'g d'! 3. Belief that (wo)man has been created in G d's image:
by which we mean that we are a potential spiritual being & therefore have certain inalienable rights which must be subordinated to
the interests of any human institution! 4. We believe that the mission of the Jew is to help to create the so called Kingdom of God on earth and the consequent Brotherhood of man, by living together as a priestly people, & by our example to bring about a knowledge of "G d" to all peoples of this world! 5. Judaism stresses therefore ETHICAL LIVING rather than theological dogma ~ DEED RATHER THAN CREED: because of this we believe that "THE RIGHTEOUS OF ALL PEOPLE HAVE A SHARE IN THE WORLD TO COME"! ['olamhazè-habá'!]
6. We believe that (wo)man can commune with g d through prayer/meditation/conversation, which takes the form of a dialogue ~ we can thus 'speak to G d, & G d speaks to us'?! G d always listens to us, we do not, alas, always listen to G d. This is 'it' in a nutshell ......
