28072/4 Origin of the bible? It was not written by


ONE
PERSON AT
ONE PARTICULAR TIME!

Rather is it the (re)collection of the works of many different writers ~
some known, and mostly unknown ~ stretching over a period approximately from 900 down to 200 BCE!

The authors often gathered their information from stories which everybody knew because they had been handed down
by word of mouth from generation to generation. At other times they were able to record what they themselves saw and heard.

By about 200 BCE it was decided that from than on nothing more should nor would be added to the already existing collection?!

The numerous 'holy' books were then sorted, examined, discussed {some were "excluded" & later corporated into a work known as the APOCRYPHA"}, put together in a agreed upon order, & finally brought out as a single BOOK (the Bible)!

In the year 90 CE the present order of Books was thus ratified @ the Council of YAMNIA! It should be remembered that the Bible (referred to by 'Christians' as "OLD TESTAMENT"knipoog was originally written in Hebrew by Jews for Jews, and was then translated into Greek, Aramaic, Syriac & Latin, & then into most other languages of the world! Purpose?

This Bible is not intended to be a text-book of SCIENCE or even of HISTORY {though it does contain much of the early history with legends of the early history of the Jewish people}!

Instead, it ÌS intended as a Book of Religion,
supplying us with moral & ethical teaching, often couched
in poetic terms & SYMBOLISM influenced by the MYTHOLOGY of the age, but always
só stressing some basic RELIGIOUS message {cf. CREATION STORIES, GARDEN OF EDEN, NOAH'S ARK,
EARLY FATHERS & MOTHERS, THE PROPHETS, POETS, SOLDIERS,
PRIESTS, SAGES & ALL KINDS
OF OTHER TEACHERS,
INTERPRETERS &
ARTISTS}?!
