A Vampire Life
In the city Necrocity a colony of vampires inhabit a little town called Necroma and within lays a very unusual family.
“Wanbli your going to be late for school!” my mom said.
“Yeah yeah I’m coming”
I got myself dressed and I was heading down the stairs to greet my mom.
“I don’t know why you keep making me go to that ridiculous school; they don’t even like the undead. The only reason why they let me in is because they’re afraid dad might eat them.” I said.
“Despite your father’s messy habits, he’s only looking out for you and going to school is good for you. You’re not going to want to live here forever, and school will prepare you to live on your own”
My mother said.
I sighed, “All right, well my life isn’t going to run itself,” I said with a smirk on my face. I kissed my mom on the cheek, grabbed my ring from the counter that protects me from the harmful sun and left the building. I ran like a torpedo towards Sunrose High in a town not far from where I live. Primroe is the name of the town. It is so lively; there are people all over the place - it’s disgusting. Although my father does call them happy meals with feet, all I see is an infestation of fleas that make my skin crawl. But I got to do what I got to do, and that’s to get through school.
I made it in record time. Although the other kids didn’t look happy to see me, I paid no attention to them and kept moving forward. Walking through the doors into school was like walking into the jaws of an arch demon; it was terrible, but I made it through!
The annoying bell rang and that meant the school day has begun. My math class was in a small room down the hall. I walked towards my math class wondering what kind of nonsense will they teach today. As soon as I stepped in the room I spotted my seat by the corner isolated from everyone else. I didn’t really care; I was just there to learn and observe -- that’s all. Nobody wanted to hear me talk so they never call on me. I took my seat waiting for the lecture. The teacher talked for an hour straight; it drove my eardrums insane. The bell rang for the next class across the hall. Science was a little more interesting. Now nobody ever died, but sometimes we’d have explosions, and I thought that was cool. I walked through the door to the science room, took my seat secluded in the back and prepared to experiment. The teacher gave us an element worksheet and chemicals to work with. We had to mix and match the chemicals to the elements on the list. There were a couple of students goofing around that messed up, which resulted in little explosions that went boom! Everyone was panicking; it was cool!
The bell rang for the next class. I didn’t realize the time went by so fast! I guess it’s true what they say about how time does fly by when you’re having fun.
My next class was English literature. It is down the hall to the left. English was cool; we got to read about dead poets and old literature that I found very fascinating. As soon as I stepped through the door, the teacher pointed to the back of the room to take my seat, so I just went to the back and took my seat. The teacher handed a variety of poems to read and analyze. One of the students threw a fit because she didn’t like poetry. That was very entertaining; I wanted to laugh so badly but I didn’t. If I did, I would be in serious trouble.
The bell finally rang, signaling that it was time for lunch. So we proceeded to the cafeteria where everyone could get a bite to eat. I walked by the window while everybody else got their tummy full. I gazed out the window thinking how much I hate this place. I mean, what a waste of skin being attached to such arrogant vermin that can’t accept different beings other then themselves. Listening to their thoughts on how superior they are is so irritating and that makes me want to tear them to shreds. But if I did, then I’d be no better then them, and that’s not who I want to be.
I browsed the students coming and going to eat. Strangely they were all staring at me. I wasn’t really surprised; they didn’t know, but I could read their thoughts. I didn’t like reading them; their thoughts were usually unpleasant thoughts like, “What a freak! He doesn’t belong here.” Or my personal favorite, “Why doesn’t he ever eat? Is he retarded?” I thought they’d be happy I never ate. I guess they have never seen a vampire eat before - what foolish humans.
The bell rang to end lunch and start the next class. I got up and headed to history, my favorite class of the day. In history we read about famous dead people and tragic events; it was awesome! I walked in the room and knew the drill, go to the back then be silent as a ghost. The teacher assigned a chapter to read and questions to answer within the time. It was fun reading about dead people.
The bell then rang for the last class. Gym was probably my least favorite class. I was the best student at gym, but nobody would play with me. It was boring playing on my own. After I stepped into the gym, I did five hundred pushups in ten minutes, ran twenty laps in ten minutes, and did a thousand jumping jacks in fifteen minutes. I then took a rest on the bench for the remainder of the time. A group of boys on the other side of the bench were whispering about me. They thought I couldn’t hear them but I have excellent hearing and I heard every word. “Hey check out the abomination over there.” “The school’s a disgrace for letting him go here.” “Creatures like him should be wiped off the face of the earth.” “Leroy, what do you think about him?”
I was surprised to hear Learoys name, I didn’t know much about him except that he’s the most popular guy at school. I didn’t know he hanged out with such amateurs. “I think he’s intriguing,” Leroy said. “Hey Leroy, about your party tonight, I bet you can’t last the whole night with that monster boy. If you can do it without kicking him out, I’ll give you $20,” one of his friends said.
“I’ll take that bet, just make sure you pay when I wipe the floor with you” Learoy said with a cocky laugh. Learoy got up and headed towards my direction.
“Hey Wanbli I’m having a party later tonight would you like to come?” he said in a friendly tone. That was unexpected, but I just kept my eyes forward. I thought about it and thought it might be fun. Yeah why not shake things up a bit.
“Yeah sure it’ll be fun,” I said.
“Great I’ll see you later tonight at the local club Helios at 6:00,” Leroy replied and then walked away.
The bell rang to end the class; school was finally over. I made my way out the building with great haste. I wanted to get home as quickly as possible, so I ran like a speeding bullet to my house. I was starving from not eating all day. I knew mother was waiting with a bowl of her special soup she prepares for me everyday because she knows I never eat at school.
I arrived at home around 3:30 so that I would have plenty of time to eat and make it to the party in time. I walked to the door and rubbed my shoes against the mat to get the mud off my shoes. Then I went inside our dark musty house. I proceeded to the kitchen where mother was. My father was usually asleep at this time so I didn’t see him. I headed towards the kitchen table where my bowl of soup was lying and mom was washing dishes by the sink. I got a spoon from the cupboard and took a seat. As I started to eat, mother asked about my day.
“What did you do today?” she said.
“Nothing much, just the same stuff that we do everyday. In one of my classes a group of kids made little explosions causing the class to panic, and in another class a student was complaining about the reading, which I found hilarious.”
“That’s nice dear; I’m glad you’re keeping yourself entertained.”
“I’ve been invited to a party tonight by one of the kids.”
“A party, well are you going?”
“Yeah I think I might go and have some more fun.”
“Are you sure? You know what they like to do to our kind.”
“I can take care of myself, and if things go bad I’ll just run away; they can’t beat my speed.”
My mom sighed then she turned around.
“Well, if you’re sure; you better eat up first.”
I devoured my soup and looked at the clock; it was about 6:00. “I better get going, I don’t want to be late,” I said to myself. I walked over to my mom to give her a hug and a kiss.
“I love you mom; I’ll be home before 10:00,” I whispered in her ear. I walked to the door and headed towards Helios where the party was being held.
It took 25 minutes to find Helios, but I made it with 5 minutes to spare. Helios looked so grand. It was inside a white building with golden drapes covering the front door and a purple carpet leading to the front red velvet door. I started towards the front door when I noticed a security guard standing next to the entrance. I approached the guard and said, “Excuse me but I’ve been invited.” Then I tried to pass through.
The guard checked his list and said; “I don’t see you on the list.” Then he knocked me down. “Scram off; your kind’s not welcome here!”
A boy came out of the club to see what the ruckus was about. “This monster said he’s been invited; I didn’t see him on the list, so I didn’t let him in,” said the guard.
The boy looked down at me and said “Yeah, Leroy invited him to be a special guest; let him in.”
I got up and walked passed the guard to the boy. I said, “Thanks for the help back there.” The boy just grumbled, “Whatever” and ran off into the club.
I went inside Helios where I saw a bunch of people dancing to some music. The lights were off, but I could see just fine. I looked around to see if anybody has seen Learoy. Nobody would talk to me or they screamed from the sight of me. They probably thought I was going to eat them.
I started walking through the crowed until I saw Learoy sitting at a table in the back. I headed towards the back to talk with Leroy. I walked by his table, and Learoy said “Hey Wanbli, glad you could make it; please take a seat.” I took a seat across from him. There was a moment of silence, and then I said “You threw a great party tonight.”
“Yeah, I throw a party every now and then to celebrate being alive.”
“Well I wouldn’t know anything about that considering I’m already dead.” We then both broke out in laughter.
“I’m sorry, that was a foolish thing to say; can I get you another drink Wanbli?”
“No it’s all right. I’m good; thanks though.”
Leroy pushed his hair out of his face and asked, “So Wanbli, you’ve been coming to this school for about four years, and you haven’t eaten or harmed anyone in that time. Why?”
“I believe that all life is precious, and it would be wrong to tarnish it. Besides, it wouldn’t be right to abuse my power by taking away life. Not every vampire feeds on blood and enjoys causing peoples suffering. I was raised with an alternative for blood; I never really cared to cause pain. But that’s what you expect from vampires. One species is going to devour the other. That’s life -- you’re either eating or being eaten.”
Learoy was staring at me; he looked confused.
“Hey Leroy, are you all right?” I asked.
“Yeah I’m good. I guess there’s more to you then I thought.”
“Nobody wants to hear me, so I don’t speak,” I said.
“Well, I’m so fortunate to have talked to the mysterious Wanbli.” I started to smile then Learoy gave a smile while taking out his watch from his pocket to check the time.
“Wow look at the time; it’s almost 9:45, I better start wrapping up my party,” Learoy said.
“Yeah, I better get home too; thanks for the invite,” I said.
“I’m glad you came; it’s been a pleasure talking to you.” Leroy got up and said, “I’ll see you around.” He waved goodbye then disappeared into the crowd.
I smiled and then got up and headed to the door. I went outside and started running home. While I was running, I started to feel better about people. I guess I just needed to talk to someone. It only took 15 minuets to reach my house. I rubbed my feet against the placemat to get the mud off my shoes before entering the house. After opening the door, I went inside.
I walked into the kitchen where I saw mom and dad both sitting at the kitchen table. Mom was eating her soup and dad was reading his book, The Nightmare. On the table, there was a bowl of soup laying out for me.
”Come dear, have a seat and eat your meal” mom said.
I sat down, grabbed a spoon, and then started to eat. My dad peeked over at me and said, “I don’t know how you can eat that trash.”
“It’s not trash, it’s a secret remedy that my master taught me to discipline my hunger,” mother said.
My dad asked: “What’s wrong feeding on people and savoring their misery as you sink your teeth into their flesh?”
“I just don’t like watching anybody suffering to satisfy my needs,” mom said.
“You would rather listen to an old hermit that lives in a mountain on an island that comes and goes whenever it chooses,” Dad growled. “It’s not even real blood.”
“It works just like regular blood without killing people. And, yes I would listen to him,” my mother retorted. “He took me in when I was changing and raised me to be a better person. Did you even ask Wanbli if he wanted to live your lifestyle?”
“Actually I don’t like seeing people get hurt either; I’m happy with my life” I said, hoping they would stop arguing.
My dad put his book down and said, “I’m going to the Blood Diamond to get some real blood; if anyone needs me that’s where I’ll be.”
My dad got out of his chair and headed out of the room, slamming the door on his way out. My mom turned her head to look at me and said in a comforting voice, “Don’t listen to your father. He runs off to his safe haven when he gets cranky. You are a great son just the way you are.”
I smiled and quickly finished eating my soup then I got up to give mom a hug and kiss goodnight. I left the kitchen and went upstairs to go my room. I put my favorite game into my PS3 and started to play. Playing my video game would help me sort through my thoughts on people, and answer this question; why am I the way that I am?
